Can You Run Windows 11 on Unsupported Hardware?
Yes. Although Microsoft officially requires TPM 2.0, Secure Boot, and an 8th-Gen Intel or Ryzen 2000 processor, millions of computers with older hardware run Windows 11 smoothly without performance degradation.
Method 1: Create a Bypass USB with Rufus (Recommended)
- Download the official Windows 11 ISO from Microsoft's website.
- Download the free, open-source tool Rufus (version 4.0 or higher).
- Insert a USB flash drive (8GB or larger) and open Rufus.
- Select your Windows 11 ISO file.
- When you click START, Rufus displays a customization modal. Check the box:
☑️ Remove requirement for 4GB+ RAM, Secure Boot and TPM 2.0
- Boot your PC from the USB and install Windows 11 normally. The setup wizard will skip hardware verification.
Method 2: In-Place Upgrade Registry Bypass
If you want to upgrade an existing Windows 10 installation without formatting:
- Press Win + R, type
regedit, and hit Enter. - Navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup\MoSetup - Right-click > New > DWORD (32-bit) Value.
- Name it:
AllowUpgradesWithUnsupportedTPMOrCPUand set its value to1. - Run
setup.exefrom your mounted Windows 11 ISO.
Activating Windows 11 on Older PCs
Once installed, enter your Windows 11 Pro Retail Key in Settings > Activation to unlock personalizations, updates, and lifetime security patches.
